Build the Core Pages Every Business Site Should Have
Now that your theme and plugins are in place, it’s time to add the actual content that turns your website into something useful for your visitors.
WordPress makes it easy to create pages — no coding required. But knowing which pages to create and what to put on them is where many beginners get stuck.
Start simple. You don’t need dozens of pages. You just need the ones that answer your visitors’ basic questions and make it easy for them to understand who you are, what you do, and how to get in touch.
Must-Have Website Pages
Home Page
This is your front door — the first impression. Keep it clear and focused.
Tell visitors who you are, what you offer, and what action you want them to take.
About Page
Tell your story. What makes you or your business different? Why should they trust you? A good About page builds connection and credibility.
Services or Products Page
What do you offer? List your services, products, pricing (if applicable), and what problems you solve. Break it into sections if needed for clarity.
Contact Page
Give visitors a way to reach you. Include a contact form, email address, phone number (if appropriate), and links to social media if you use it for business.
Privacy Policy / Terms (Generally Optional but Always Smart)
Even if you’re just starting, it’s wise to have a simple privacy policy. And depending upon the capabilities of your site, you may be required to disclose how your site handles user/visitor data. If you have a legal team your team can build this page by hand. However, if yours is a small or medium sized business, WordPress includes a basic privacy policy template you can edit. You can also generate a custom policy using trusted legal template sites. And there are a number of third-party plugins that will automatically manage notifications for you, so you do not need to manually do anything other than install the plugins.
Let’s look at building your pages.
How to Create a Page in WordPress
- Log in to your WordPress dashboard
- Go to Pages > Add New
- Give your page a title (like “About” or “Contact”)
- Use the block editor to add text, images, or buttons
- Click Publish when you’re done
Repeat this process for each page.
Pro Tip: Set Your Homepage
By default, WordPress shows whatever you post most recently onto your homepage. To set a custom static homepage that does not change no matter what else you post:
- Go to Settings > Reading
- Under “Your homepage displays,” choose A static page
- Select your Home and Blog pages from the dropdown
- Save changes
This gives you full control over your front page layout.
What’s Next?
With your core pages in place, it’s time to make your site easier to find in search engines — and start tracking what your visitors are doing.
